How We Test

by Camille

At Cult Confidential, every recommendation comes from actually using the product. Not from a press release, not from a brand brief, and never from a product we haven’t tried ourselves.

We use it like you would

Every product we recommend has been used for at least two weeks before we write about it, and skincare often longer, because skin takes time. We test in real life: the mascara on a 12-hour workday, the moisturizer through a Nordic winter, the nail polish through dishes, typing and a week of wear. We take our own photos, swatches and half-used bottles included.

We choose what we test

No brand decides what we try or what we say about it. We pick products because they’re cult classics, buzzy new launches you’re probably curious about, or hidden gems we think deserve more love, especially from Scandinavia and the Nordics.

What we look at

Depending on the category, we look at formula, texture, how it performs over time, how it wears through a full day, ingredients, and whether it’s worth the price. We compare against products we’ve used before, and we also read what other users say, so our opinion isn’t the only data point.

We’ll tell you when it’s overhyped

If a viral product disappoints us, we say so. Our job is to be the honest friend in your beauty life, not a billboard.

How we make money

Some links on Cult Confidential are affiliate links. If you click one and buy something, we may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. Occasionally we publish sponsored content, and it’s always clearly labeled “Sponsored.” Brands sometimes send us products to try, but that never guarantees coverage or a good review. We will never recommend a product we don’t 100% stand behind.

We keep it updated

Beauty moves fast. Formulas change, products get discontinued, and new launches take over. We revisit our recommendations and update articles when something changes, so you can trust what you’re reading.
